Teaching Moments 1989-2019 |
Teaching art has been my passion since 1989. Upon completing a two year Intensive Studies Program at The Ottawa School of Art, I returned to St.John's, Newfoundland looking to build my art career.
I offered private lessons from my kitchen and quickly , a roster of students filled my schedule. To begin group instruction, I secured a rental at The Newfoundland Career Academy and hit the ground running! All six classes filled and this began my teaching life. I became busy creating projects, course content and teaching approaches. Two years later, I began teaching courses at the Continuing Studies Program at Memorial University of Newfoundland This would be the opportunity that brought recognition to my unique style of teaching, bringing in the highest number of registrations, the most highly attended classes, and highest revenue for an art instructor in the MUN program. With public classes in tow, I began to teach small groups of adults from home. These clusters of students were like family, as every week, we fostered a learning atmosphere of joy and creativity, and there were copious amounts of tea, baked goods, artmaking and memorable connections.. In 2010, I moved to Ontario. I returned to Newfoundland periodically to teach out of a former student's studio with a set of workshops. This experience brought my teaching life full circle, to see a student succeed and give back by offering her studio space to house my teaching opportunities. Flash forward to today... Now residing in Mimico, I have been wanting and waiting to return to private instruction, empowering others to tap into creativity and learn the skills to make authentic art. I am offering art coaching from my home studio, and also onsite home visits if preferred. This return to private art instruction is a welcomed coming home moment in my artist journey. The art table is ready!
